Working with throwing athletes requires a critical eye and specialized testing to truly ascertain limitations or faults that could potentially leady to injury or inhibit performance. On this page, we’ve compiled a collection of comprehensive tools designed to assess and analyze various aspects of throwing athletes’ performance and health. Whether you’re a coach, athlete, or healthcare professional, these downloadable forms provide valuable insights into strength, motion, function, mechanics, etc.
“If you’re not assessing, you’re guessing!”

Thrower’s Readiness Inventory (TRI)
The TRI was created as a comprehensive assessment for the throwing athlete to determine one’s functional capacity to return to throwing after injury. The TRI was built on the strongest evidence available in scientific literature alongside decades of actual practice and can be helpful in clinical decision making.
The TRI has all testing procedures outlined with instructions, cut-offs, and references in the final two pages. If there are any questions on how to perform or interpret the TRI, please let us know!

Thrower’s Return to Sport after Injury (T-RSI) Confidence Scale
The Thrower’s RSI is a scale that assesses psychological readiness of the thrower. Pain and injuries can dramatically affect an individual, even if not immediately apparent. This scale was engineered off of the same framework as Webster et al. (2008) created for the ACL and lower extremity injuries. The Thrower’s RSI is provides the clinician with reliable information that may prove highly valuable in their patient’s journey with returning to sport.
General Throwing Athlete Evaluation
This form is a versatile and comprehensive tool designed for clinicians (novice to expert) to assess and analyze various aspects of throwing athletes’ performance, mechanics, and musculoskeletal health. This is your “catch-all” evaluation form covers a wide range of critical areas to provide a holistic view of the athlete’s throwing capabilities
The Throwing Athlete Evaluation form allows for a comprehensive assessment, individualized care, and baseline data for monitoring. Further, it empowers clinicians to make informed decisions, optimize treatment strategies, and maximize performance outcomes for throwing athletes. It serves as a valuable tool for guiding clinical assessments and developing targeted interventions to enhance athletic performance and minimize injury risks in the throwing population

Kerlan Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic Shoulder & Elbow Score (KJOC)
The Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic Shoulder & Elbow Score (KJOC) provides questions for the overhead athlete that can aid with determining if someone is throwing with or without pain. Initially only validated for professional and high-level throwers, the KJOC can now differentiate between younger baseball athletes throwing with and without pain. The predictive threshold score can be used in a clinical setting to aid with determining if a youth or high school-aged athlete is suffering from pain while participating in overhead throwing, and to guide rehabilitation management.
Throwing Mechanics Checklist (Overhead)
Assessing throwing/pitching mechanics can be challenging, even for the most experienced clinician and coach. Our Throwing Mechanics Checklist provides a template for novices to experts to consistently evaluate throwing mechanics of the overhead athlete.
